Destia, the Finnish subsidiary of Colas, has been awarded the contract for zone 3 of the Espoo Rail Line project in Espoo, Finland's second largest city, by the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency. The total amount of this contract is 80 million Euros.

Destia will be responsible for building 4.5 kilometres of new double railway track and three bridges, renovating four others, demolishing an engineering structure and renovating two stations (Koivuhovi and Tuomarila).

The contract is part of an overall network development project: a total of 14 kilometres of new track will be laid in Espoo to improve the public transport system in the Helsinki region. These tracks will allow commuter trains and long-distance trains to run separately, thereby improving the frequency, regularity and accessibility of rail services.

The Espoo Rail Line project is part of the high-speed rail link between Helsinki and Turku. Located in dynamic regions, this line will meet the needs of all users in this area, while encouraging sustainable and environmentally-friendly travel. Destia has an additional project in the Turku region for this high-speed railway connection.

The work, which has just started, will be completed by the end of 2028.
